PROGRAM HISTORY

Since 2003, Our Lady Of the Sacred Heart Girl's Basketball program has been a force to recon with. The 2004-2005 season brought with it Coach Eckerle and Coach Zyroll's first playoff appearance. Since that season, the girl's team has been in the WPIAL playoffs every year.

In 2006, the program started to take off even more. That year the team captured the section title, as well as made it to the WPIAL championship game at The Peterson Event Center. The very young team, comprised of mostly 3 juniors, 4 sophomore, and 1 freshman, faced an experienced and talented Greensburg Central Catholic. OLSH came away with a silver medal that year, and took the team to their first state playoff run. The following season the team was again a competitive team that made it to the quarterfinals of the WPIAL playoffs were they lost to Ford City. Although they lost that game, they did get to experience another PIAA playoff run.

In 2008, the girl's took the spotlight again. They were ranked #1 in the WPIAL, as well as #1 in the state for several months. They fought a tough section play and came away with the section title again. The team was the top seed going into the WPIAL playoffs. Prior to the first game, the Chargers lost their leading scorer to a severe illness. The girls dedicated those playoffs to that player, and fought their way back to the WPIAL championship game at the A.J. Palumbo center. This time they faced off against South Park. The girls gave it their all, but came up short. Coming away again with a silver medal. After the championship game, they advanced to the PIAA playoffs again. Their last game was an up and down event that took place at two different gyms and went into two overtimes. They finished a great season in the second round the the PIAA playoffs against Greensburg Central Catholic.

In 2009, the girl's proved to be another great team. They made it back to the WPIAL playoffs, as well as the PIAA playoffs.

2014 turned out to be another outstanding year. The team faced tough competition at the beginning of the season that ultimately prepared them for the difficult season ahead. The team fought hard and made it to the WPIAL playoffs. There they would succumb to the soon to be WPIAL and State champions, Seton LaSalle. The girls proved themselves worthy of states, and traveled to Pitt Johnston for the first round of PIAA playoffs. There they lost a nailbiter to Tussey Mountain.
